Canary in a Coal Mine PDF Print E-mail

Canary in a Coal MineMonday through Friday, you can now get a 96oz container of our freshly ground, freshly brewed, FairTrade, Organic coffee. Most of you are probably familiar with the old adage of ‘A Canary In a Coal Mine.’ If you are not, you can now place a check mark next to “Learn one new thing every day” on your list of New Year’s Resolutions.

During the 19th and 20th centuries, it was a practice of miners to place canaries in the coal mines to detect dangerous gases and oxygen levels. If the canaries died, that was a warning that the environment was no longer habitable for the miners, and that their lives were at risk.

Fast forward to the 21st century. Downtown Glendale is the mine, you are the miner, and A Shot of Java is the canary.

The City of Glendale is in the first stages of its Centerline Project, which is designed to revitalize the downtown Glendale corridor area (from 43rd Ave to 67th Ave, between Ocotillo Rd and Myrtle Ave).

As Glendale’s greatest coffee house, we pride ourselves on making A Shot of Java a place where everyone can come to experience fantastic beverages and snacks.

Along with filling your tummies, we want to fill your souls with art, poetry, and music. That is what a neighborhood coffee house, and life are all about: The Experience. And this canary wants to sing!

We want to be a leading example of what Downtown Glendale CAN BE, and the (literally) hundreds of you who have come to show your support for us are exactly what we need to do it. If you take care of your canary, it will take care of you!

We are all in this together for life, liberty, and the pursuit of a damn good cup of coffee!
